Our thanks to all who made-up their envelopes when they were unable to be present at last weekends’ Mass and all who contribute to our Parish’s weekly and monthly collections.  At times you may be away but Parish maintenance bills are always with us.

In this New Year, if your circumstances permit, please consider adding $5.00 to your envelope. Every envelope makes a difference and counts.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS:  Child Lures, the Archdiocesan Program designed to make children aware of possible dangerous situations and how to handle them, is a required presentation annually in our Religious Education Program.  Most of our students take this instruction in second grade during their preparation for First Communion.  This year, it will be presented on April 1st by Detective Charles Stankye, the Youth Officer of the Derby Police Department.  Parents and Guardians of our First Communion students are welcome to remain in class that day for the presentation if they choose to do so.  Students In higher grades, who might have missed Child Lures in their younger years, are welcome to participate on April 1st if their parents wish them to do so.  Confirmation parents are asked to mark their calendars for the Parent and Guardian meeting on March 21st at 7 p.m. in the Church Hall.

ALL YOU CAN EAT

ZITI AND MEATBALL DINNER

Hosted by Our Parish Family Club, on Saturday, February 11th, 2012 at 5:30 p.m.  Menu includes ziti, meatballs, salad, bread, dessert, wine, soda, coffee and tea.  Adults $10, children $5.  For reservations, please call Debbie Montini 203-732-8285 or Kathy Guluzzy 203-732-2220.  The event is not handicapped accessible.  As Always, all proceeds are applied to the needs of our Parish.

In order to be a sponsor (godparent) for the Sacrament of Baptism or Confirmation, the Archdiocese of Hartford requires that you must have:

1)Received the Catholic Sacraments of Baptism, Communion and Confirmation

2)Attained the required minimum age of 16 years

3)Live a way of life in harmony with the faith and the role of a sponsor

4)If married: Marriage is canonically valid and recognized by the Catholic Church.  (Married by a Catholic priest)

5)Attend Mass regularly on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation.

One way St. Mary verifies Mass attendance is your use of the envelopes.  The contribution amount does not determine your receiving the sponsorship certificate, your presence does.  If you use your envelopes, we know you are here.  If you are new to the parish, or have been away there is a probationary time of 3 months before you will be eligible for the certificate.

A Family Perspective

In today’s gospel Jesus went to the “house of Andrew and Simon” to relax but discovered that “Simon’s mother-in-law was very ill. Like Jesus we come home to relax but are confronted with problems. Take a tip from Andrew and Simon who “told Jesus about it at once.”

Snowstorms and weekday Masses:

As in the past, if school is delayed and/or cancelled, there will not be morning Mass here at St. Mary’s.  When the roads are too dangerous for the school buses then they are too dangerous for anyone to be driving.  Our Parish Office will also have the same delay/early dismissal or closing as Derby Schools.  Mass intentions will be rescheduled.

Holy God,

With gratitude in our hearts,

we praise you for your love and your fidelity.

You have shown us the way to holiness

through Mary and Jesus and many faithful witnesses.

You continue to call men and women

to dedicate their lives through the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience.

Give them courage to respond generously to your call with “Here I am, send me!”

Blessed by your Spirit, may we always proclaim your love with our lives.

 Amen
