ST. MARY – ST. MICHAEL SCHOOL ANNOUNCES NEW PRINCIPAL

Derby, June 7, 2010 - The parish communities of St. Mary – The Immaculate Conception and St. Michael are pleased to announce Linda T. Coppola has accepted an offer to become the new principal of St. Mary-St. Michael Catholic School on

Seymour Avenue
in Derby, Connecticut.

The announcement was made by Reverend Roman Gorowski, C.M., Pastor of St. Michael Church during a breakfast meeting with parents of the school on Saturday, June 5th.  Also present were Dale R. Hoyt, Superintendent of Catholic Schools, and Maria Maynard, Assistant Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Archdiocese of Hartford.

Ms. Coppola had been principal of Bradley School in Derby these past six years, and has dedicated another thirty years working in the Derby public school system.

Besides her work experience, Coppola holds a 6th Year Professional Diploma in Education Leadership, a Masters Degree, and is an alumna of both Derby High School and St. Mary School in Derby.

A Principal Search Committee was formed when the current principal, Donna Doherty announced that she would be retiring at the end of the school year.

The Principal Search Committee was chaired by Patrick J. Clifford, Principal of Notre Dame High School in West Haven.

The new principal of St. Mary-St. Michael School will build on the more than 125 years of tradition for setting high academic standards, providing strong faith formation, and ensuring a safe, caring Catholic environment for children in pre-kindergarten (ages 3 and 4) through grade eight.
